"Ideally, everyone who seeks to feel more
connected to themselves and their lives
deserves the opportunity to access therapy,
from wherever they are, anyway they need to.

My online sessions mirror this philosophy, removing travel barriers while upholding the strictest privacy standards, just as in face-to-face encounters."

I offer online therapy sessions Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST (Eastern Standard Time), and can provide a free initial 15-minute consultation via Zoom to help you decide if my services are right for you. Individual 55-minute sessions are currently priced at $125, payable through credit card or e-transfer. Following each session, you will receive an immediate invoice and an official receipt for insurance purposes.  Please note that my designation is Registered Psychotherapist (RP).

Depending on your health insurance plan, coverage may vary, so I recommend contacting your health insurance provider or referring to your benefit booklet for details.

Additionally, all clients will need to have access to a webcam, a reliable internet connection, and a private space where you can speak freely. This space can be your bedroom, car, office, or any location where you feel comfortable. Many of my current clients also use a headset to ensure privacy, especially if they share a space with others.

After an initial email and consultation, and if we decide to proceed, you will be asked to complete two client forms. These forms will help me determine how to support you and define more clearly what to expect going forward.

Through the safe portal of OnCall Health, you can easily review, sign, pay, and join our scheduled video sessions.

About Me:
Elaine Smookler

With over 25 years of experience in Mindfulness and other therapeutic modalities, I bring a wealth of expertise into my psychotherapy practice. As a Registered Psychotherapist in good standing, I am licensed by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), and am therefore able to practice across all of Ontario, Quebec, and elsewhere, where permitted.

I hold a certification in Core Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy Facilitation from the Factor Inwentash School of Social Work, (2013), and I offer MBCT (Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy) online live and in individually tailored one-to-one coaching formats. I am a  member of the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals, and I am committed to continuous learning. I am a Certified Mindfulness Teacher - Professional Level (CMT-P) through the International Mindfulness Teachers Association, (2020), and I have certification as an MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) Teacher from The Centre for Mindfulness Studies, (2016).

My focus is to offer tools from Mindfulness, and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and a growing palette of therapeutic modalities to assist clients as they learn to trust themselves, come to understand the best practices for managing stress, and where possible, make friends with anxiety, depression and all of life’s colours that come - whether we want them or not.

My therapeutic approach continues to recognize that:

  • Thoughts are not Facts

  • there are chemical underpinnings to our emotions that can be managed

  • there is evidence-based value in naming emotions as they arise

  • it is important to reconnect with the body using a trauma-informed approach

  • self-compassion is needed to prevent the threat mechanism from triggering

I can also assist with:

  • managing career transitions

  • developing new coping strategies for various emotional situations

  • support for those going through the grieving process

  • navigating relationship difficulties

  • managing stress and burn-out

  • support for existing mood disorders

As a long-time Mindfulness practitioner, I apply creative, critical, and sometimes even comedic thinking to my therapy sessions, and have also been trained in:

  • Reiki

  • Attunement

  • Sound Therapy

  • Buddhist Theory and Practice

  • Theatrical Clown (a practice that is often seen as a vehicle for freedom of expression, self-actualization and the expansion of imagination)

I can offer one-to-one coaching in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) for those interested in undertaking the 8-week program but who would prefer to take it privately.

My teaching methods adhere to the ethical and professional standards mandated by the CRPO, ensuring safe, effective, client-centred care.

I was a founding faculty member at the Centre for Mindfulness Studies where I taught clinical programs including MBCT and MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction). For many years I also taught Mindfulness throughout the University of Toronto's Faculty of Medicine, and I am currently on faculty for the certificate program Mindfulness Informed End-of-Life Care, taught on-line through the University of Toronto's School of Continuing Studies.

I specialize in:

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

  • Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC)

  • Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

  • Mindfulness-Informed End-of-Life Care

  • Deeper Mindfulness
